Pillayar Modhakam


Soak one cup of rice in water for 45 minutes.Grind it into a smooth paste.Take one cup of water in a pan and add a teaspoon of any oil and let it boil.Now add the batter and mix it well till its cooked.Take small amount from this mixture and make a cup with your hand and put the coconut-jaggery filling inside and cover it.Steam cook the modhakas for 10 minutes.

Nuts Chiki


Dates-1 cup
Walnut-1 cup
Pista-1 cup
Almonds-1 cup

Dry roast the almonds, pista and walnut and chop them into small pieces.Cut the dates into small pieces.Heat the pan and add little ghee and add the dates.In low flame,stir the dates till they melt and become syrup like consistency.Now add the chopped nuts and mix them well.Transfer the contents into greased plate and press them evenly and cut it into pieces.Allow it to cool well or you can keep them in refrigerator for an hour.

Hanumath Jayanthi Vadai


Urad Dal(Whole or Split)-1 cup
Rice-1/3 cup
Pepper Powder-1 1/2 tsp
Asafoetida-pinch
Salt-to taste
Ghee-2 tsp
Water-1 cup

Dry grind the urad dal and rice together into coarse powder.Mix pepper,salt,asafoetida and ghee into the powder.Add water and soak it for 15-3o minutes.Take small lemon size ball of this mixture and make it into Vada in a clean cloth.Pat the extra moisture from it and put it in the oil.Take it out when it turns golden brown and crispy.

Dates Cake



15-20 dates
1 cup milk
3/4 cup sugar
1 cup maida
1 tsp baking powder
10 cashews or walnuts finely chopped

Microwave the dates with milk for 2 minutes and grind them into a fine paste with sugar.Add the sieved maida and baking powder into this mixture and mix them well.Add chopped nuts and mix.Preheat the oven at 350 degrees .Transfer the mixture into a baking dish and bake them till it is done.It will take nearly 25-30 minutes.A knife inserted into the cake should come out clean.The color of the cake depends on the dates used.
